Dry Age-Related Macular Degeneration

Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is the leading cause of vision loss in people aged 50 or older. AMD does not lead to total blindness. It does however affect your central vision and interferes with your everyday tasks, such as reading and recognizing faces. Treatment for AMD is currently limited and often ineffective. Eyetas can support your vision by improving the thickness of the retinal layers affected by the disease (Retinal outer nuclear layer) and by reducing its long-term inflammatory effect.

Omega 3 improves vision in patients with Dry AMD

The effect of Omega 3 supplementation on vision in patients with Dry AMD.

Georgiou & Prokopiou, 2015

Supportive Research

Diets rich in Omega 3 appear protective against AMD. Donor eyes with AMD and their age-matched controls were examined and their retinal lipid profiles were related with systemic biomarkers of lipid intake. The systemic Arachidonic acid/Eicosapentaenoic (AA/EPA) acid ratios correlated well with retinal AA/EPA ratios. The AMD donors had significantly higher retinal levels of AA/EPA ratio than their age-matched control, and the serum AA/EPA ratio was likewise higher relative to the age-matched controls.

Gorusupudi, et al. 2016

In animal models with dry AMD, the retinal outer nuclear layer thickness increased and anti-inflammatory response was detected in the retinal tissues.

Prokopiou, et al. 2017

Fish consumption could reduce the risk of AMD. Epidemiological studies are in agreement that consumption of Omega 3 rich foods are associated with a lower risk of AMD.
